1. What is the SCA?
Welcome to the SCA, otherwise known as the
Society for Creative
Anachronism. The SCA is a world-wide medieval interest and re-creation
group. The A in SCA stands for anachronism which is an object or person
placed outside of its proper time. In effect, members of the SCA are
anachronisms as we pursue our interest in all things medieval. The range
of history that the Society is interested in is primarily between 600 and
1600 CE (give or take a few years), with an emphasis on Europe.
Members of the Society take on a character or persona of someone who could
have existed during a particular time. For example, they may be a Viking
from Denmark in 910, a Mongol in 1200, a Scottish highlander in 1310, or
just about anything else that can be imagined.
2. What is the Kingdom of Ealdormere.
 |
 |
|
The Kingdom is represented by the
Trillium and the Wolf. |
The Kingdom of Ealdormere, which claims
almost all of the Province of Ontario is the only completely Canadian
Kingdom in the SCA. Before we became a Kingdom in A.S. XXXII, we were a
Principality of the Kingdom of the
Middle (which is the U.S. States of Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, part
of Michigan, Illinois and a nip of Iowa, and some of Ontario). We choose
our Royalty through a Crown Tournament. Winners of the tournament become
Prince and Princess for approximately six months and then become King and
Queen for approximately six months. The Crown Tourney is held at the
beginning of each new reign. Then it all starts over again. There are two
reigns per year in Ealdormere. The Summer reign lasts for five months, and
the winter reign lasts for seven.
| Geographically speaking,
The Kingdom of Ealdormere makes up most of what is the Province of
Ontario, Canada. |
